Coates Zinfandel 2009
Certified organic wine and grapes
Coates Vineyards is a certified-organic biodynamic winery established in 1991 by Norman Coates. It is located in the Six Rivers National Forest near the small town of Orleans in Northern California, 40 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, with ideal conditions for growing premium-quality wine grapes that ripen to express their varietal characters. Before the vineyards were established, a wide variety of organically grown fruits and vegetables had been farmed on this land by Coates under the trade name, Gem of the River Produce. Organic produce has been grown here and at two other nearby farms by the Coates family for the past 35 years and shipped to local organic-produce markets, farmers markets, and organic wholesalers throughout the United States. Coates wines are made exclusively from certified, organically grown grapes and vinted in small lots, without the use of chemicals or sulfites. They are unfiltered, unfined, and aged for two years in the finest French and American oak cooperage.
