Clendenen Family Vineyard Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley 2005
The Clendenen Family Vineyards project was launched with the 2000 vintage as a way to select small amounts of special quality grapes form vineyards that famed grower and winemaker Jim Clendenen had established.
This wine comes from the organically certified Le Bon Climat vineyard, a central, elevated mesa planted in 1998. This pinot was harvested right before the big heat spell in 2004, so while it is rich and powerful it is lower in alcohol and has natural concentration. Red fruit, earth, sous bois and hard spice complexity characterize the wine, with its traditional, stylish pinot noir appeal.
