Chateau Guiraud is located approximately 28 miles south from Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Garonne river. It extends over 300 acres and is located inside the village of Sauternes. It was first known as "La Maison Noble du Bayle" when it belonged to the de Mons family in Saint-Poly. Pierre Guiraud, a Bordeaux merchant of Protestant faith, bought the estate in 1766 and upon his death in 1799 bequeathed the estate to his son Louis. It was under Louis Guiraud that the estate was saved from a severe devaluation that began in 1793, becoming a famous chateau well known for its wine.
