The Chateau de Valcombe has been in the Ricome family since 1740, but it was in the 19th century that it first left its mark on the history of wine. The estate first won a prize at the "World Fair" of 1855.
The Ricomes were among the first in the appellation to gamble on Syrah. Today it accounts for 60% of the estate. The magic of Valcombe lies in soils with thick layers of shingle and a limited water supply, which obliges the roots of the vines to grow up to 12 metres underground! The wines are sublime.
