50-55% Pinot Noir, 28-33% Chardonnay, 15-20% Pinot Meunier. Maison Veuve Clicquot Ponsardi was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot in Reims, France. He chose the anchor, the Christian symbol for hope and rigor, as the cork brand which was the only distinguishing mark in the era before labels. In 1805, Barbe Nicole Ponsardin (aka Madame Veuve Clicquot) took over the house. And in the 1860s to 1870s, the house entered a new era as it began to systematically label each of its bottles and slowly apply yellow labels to all their products.
