Floral aromas of violets and rose petals dance with wild strawberries on the nose of this wine. The mouthfeel, silky and refined, brightens with ripe chokeberry and currant, while touches of pipe tobacco and worn leather round out the sip.
The grapes are harvested in the coolest hours of the day and the wine is left to ferment in conical wooden vats at a controlled temperature. At the end of the process, it is refined for 15 months, first in new 600-litre demi-muids and then in barriques.
The 2012 Maya is powerful, dense, but beautifully balanced and precise. Each of the varieties delivers its best attributes—dark brambly fruit and a silky, expansive palate impression from the cabernet sauvignon, and exotic spice notes and power from the cabernet franc.

The wine is coming from a plot called “La Navilla”, situated in the same estate where the winery is located, and facing a very optimum south west position. Coming on the heels of a prolonged multi-year drought, the 2016 growing season was defined by near-ideal conditions. Rain in March and early April allowed the vines to start the spring with ample moisture in the soil, making for healthy canopies and balanced vines.

Originating in the Jura region of France, the Grivot family settled in Vosne-Romanée right before the French Revolution. In 1919, Gaston Grivot sold his vines in less prominent areas to be able to buy a large plot in the grand cru Clos de Vougeot. He and his son, Jean, were some of the first students to graduate from Dijon University under the oenology program, and soon after they made their last name famous in the wine world.
