Intrigu is only aged in stainless steel for 6 months, followed by 3 months in bottle, which allows for a transparent presentation of the grape. On the nose there are aromas of balsamic, clove, violets, and black pepper.
Tasting Notes: A light but fragrant bouquet of herbals flavors, grapefruit, and citrus. “Refreshing” and “Crisp” were words that came to mind when the wine hit the palate. It finishes with more lemon-citrus and mineral hints.
The frozen Vidal grapes were harvested in late December 2019 when temperatures fell between -10ºC and -13ºC. After settling the juice in stainless steel tanks, cool fermentation was completed in late-February when the wine was placed outdoors to stop fermentation and to complete natural cold stabilization.
2017 was a very challenging year, as most of their vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja were affected by frost, unlike others in nearby Laguardia. Not only was it frost, but they also had hail later on in the season.
This wine has hypnotic aromas of violets and deep, full flavors of plum with small portions of Syrah and Bonarda to add dark cherry and blackberry flavors. Deft oak usage adds layers of complexity with smoothly-integrated tones of spice and vanilla.

The wine is created according to the classical technology of making Georgian dry white wines, when fermentation and aging take place in kvevri - huge clay jugs, traditional in Kakhetian winemaking. Wine is aged in qvevri for at least 6 months.

Two brothers, Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino, run this family estate in Monforte d’Alba. Alessandro managed the vineyards and served as the enologist at Cantina Bartolo Mascarello for 20 years, from 1978 to 1997.
Coming on the heels of a prolonged multi-year drought, the 2016 growing season was defined by near-ideal conditions. Rain in March and early April allowed the vines to start the spring with ample moisture in the soil, making for healthy canopies and balanced vines.
