Cantine Lento Magliocco 2009
A very intense garnet red in color, the Magliocco shows a nose with captivating notes of ripe fruit (blackberries, plums, and wild cherries) which perfectly reflect the characteristics of the grape variety. On the palate the wine is well structured with supple tannins thata are both sweet and rounded. The lengthy finish promises a long life and the aftertaste recalls together notes of ripe fruit and licorice.
100% Maggliocco. Cantine Lento, established in 1972, owns a cultivated area of over 247 acres, divided into three estates: Tenuta Romeo, Tenuta Villa Caracciolo (PDO Lamezia), and Tenuta Galati (Calabrian PGI). In these estates, distinct from each other by location and the variety of grapes grown, the main cultivation operations are performed manually. These factors, associated with the vineyards' southern exposure, an excellent temperature range between day and night, and the location in a natural amphitheater, allow ideal conditions for obtaining a perfect ripening of the grapes and therefore wine of great character and personality. Also the peculiarity of the autochthonous varieties, magliocco, white and black greco, nerello, and malvasia together with the prestige of international varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, and merlot allow Cantine Lento to offer a wide range of selected wines. There is wine info displayed in Italian on the front label of the wine (and translated here): "Wine obtained from one of the oldest Mediterranean grape varieties, brought to light in our estates after years of hard work and research. The vineyard overlooking the two Calabrian seas forms part of a unique landscape for its position and natural characteristics, which unites the world of the sea with its cool breezes and that of the warm Southern [Italy] land, in a perfect synthesis of colors, scents, and flavors."
