Our 2009 Reserve Carneros Pinot Noir is selected from our finest vineyards in the Los Carneros American Viticultural Area (AVA). Seductive dark fruit and rose petal aromas lead to an explosive palate of black raspberries. Complex nuances of violet, cocoa and truffle add layers of complexity to the concentrated berry-preserve expression. A sensation of sweet, ripe fruit—although the wine is dry—contributes to the luscious mouthfeel, while firm, supple tannins give structure.
We hand-selected all the grapes from the Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch No. 9, 5 and 8 in our Los Carneros AVA vineyards, at the southern end of Napa Valley. These vines, rooted in shallow, nutrient-lean clay loam soils, are grafted to a blend of Dijon clones for complexity of flavors, with a Pommard clone for structure. Andre Tchelistcheff, the legendary winemaker at Beaulieu Vineyard and the first to realize the potential of this cool, windswept region for great Pinot Noir, persuaded BV to purchase this exceptional land in the early 1960s.
