Baron Philippe de Rothschild Mouton Cadet Rouge 2013
A dense, brilliant red color with a purple tint. A fresh and harmonious nose, rich in ripe berry and red fruit aromas, especially blackcurrant and morello cherry. The attack is supple and fruity, on jammy fruit, and the tannins are silky and well rounded. The slightly spicy finish expresses all the distinctive character of ripe merlot.
65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc. Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A., established in 1933, is located at Pauillac in the Medoc. Famous for two centuries, first in banking then in wine, the Rothschild name comes from the German phrase "Das Rote Schild"—a reference to the Red Shield which originally served as the family sign. They have been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category—from the chateaux wines like the renowned Chateau Mouton Rothschild, their flagship wine, to branded wines such as the famous Mouton Cadet. In 1930, the idea of a wine "brand" was in its infancy. Nevertheless, wine visionary Baron Philippe de Rothschild created Mouton Cadet, and in essence, created the world's first modern wine brand. An instant success, Mouton Cadet is now a worldwide favorite, delivering the riches of Bordeaux to wine lovers around the globe.
