The aromas are perfumed, peppery, spicy, smoky, and exhibit ripe red-fruit notes. As always the palate texture of this style of wine is supple, smooth on the entry but with enough grip to end dry and refreshing. In the mouth the texture and fineness of fruit tannin and drinkability of the wine is immediately evident. This wine can be enjoyed now or with careful cellaring over the next couple of years.
55% Shiraz, 32% Cinsault, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Tinta Barocca, 2% Pinotage, 1% Mourvedre, 1% Carignan, 1% Grenache. Secateurs are the pruning shears that shape the vines—a tribute to the workers who are already crafting the wine during the cold winters of the Cape. This wine is made by the Badenhorst family who have been producing quality wines for three generations in South Africa. The grapes were hand harvested from selected old bushvine vineyards on granite slopes. In the cellar traditional winemaking methods are followed by natural fermentation in old casks and concrete vats. This detail results in wines with fine complexity and a unique character.
