+7 Priorat 2005
Deep red wine with violet hints. Its intense color and heavy robe give it a fleshy appearance. A very aromatic wine with minerals and fruit, such as forest fruits like blackberry. Once aired, the aging in oak gives smoke and toast. With a more vigorous swirling of the glass, this wine shows spices, mint, and liquorice. Full of character, with an intensely profound body which fills the palate. The touches of fruit are mixed with those that come from the barrel aging. It has a long and lingering finish. Serve with capon and poularde, deer, quail and partridge, stews and meat sauce, wild boar, duck, pig's trotters, roast chicken, chicken in sauce, cheese, or old cheese. Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, and Syrah. Elaborated by Bodegas Pinord, which dates back to over 150 years ago when the Tetas family began making white and red wines on their estate in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they had grown. In 1942, Josep Maria Tetas set up the current winery in Vilafranca del Penedes, just 2.5 miles from the original estate. The name of their vineyard "Pi del Nord" ('Pine of the North') is what inspired the family to name the company "Bodegas Pinord." They have converted to organic farming, becoming the first winery in the region to be certified for organic practices. The winery is still in its original location, next to the Vilafranca del Penedes train station, where they had their own pipeline which went under the rails to fill up tanks in the waiting trains. These trains were sent around Spain, so the winery quickly became known for the quality of their bulk wines. Today, Bodegas Pinord makes more than five million bottles a year, with 15 organic wine products. The grapes for +7 are cultivated from their Mas Blanc estate in Priorat, Pinord's model cellar for producing organic wines, on terraces with slate-stone soils through the use of biodynamic and hand harvesting methods.
